As I said in one of my last posts, tequila isn’t the top-of-mind liquor when it comes to holiday parties… but that should change. My go-to tequila of choice is Patròn and I teamed up with them again this season to showcase some of my favorite tequila cocktails that are delicious and festive enough to sip on at any holiday party (side note: Patròn just updated their augmented reality app with some holiday and shopping features, on top of learning more about the Patròn distillery process). Take your pick from something sweet, more tart, to the easiest solution that is Patròn on the rocks (or, this this case: rock). Also, take note of the holiday party table. Rather than use any centerpieces or table runners, winter fruits make a beautiful presentation (some of which can actually be eaten, too!). Think figs, pomegranates, cranberries, blood oranges, and apples. I wouldn’t do this for a big party, but only if you’re having several friends or family over, which is usually how I like to keep things. I’m into the speakeasy vibe and I like to bring that essence into my apartment. Cocktails and recipes to follow.

Ginger Margherita

  • 2 oz. Patròn 100% Weber Blue Agave tequila
  • Liquid sugar (1 cup water + 1/2 cup sugar)
  • 1 medium-large “hand” of ginger, cubed in 1/2-inch pieces
  • 1½ oz. freshly squeezed orange juice
  • Dehydrated ginger slices (for garnish)

Directions: Bring water and sugar to a simmer until sugar is completely dissolved (this is your liquid sugar). Add liquid sugar to blender with cubed ginger and blend (approx. 30-45 seconds) and strain into a cocktail shaker with ice. Add tequila, juice from fresh orange, and shake. Pour into cocktail glass and serve. Garnish with dehydrated ginger slice, if you’d like.

Pomegranate Margherita

  • 2 oz. Patròn 100% Weber Blue Agave tequila
  • 1 oz. Cointreau
  • 1½ oz. fresh lime juice
  • 1½ oz. orange juice
  • 1½ oz. pomegranate juice
  • ⅓ oz. blue agave nectar
  • Pomegranate ariels for garnish

Directions: Add all ingredients (except for poemgranate ariels) to a cocktail shaker with ice and shake. Serve in a glass filled with ice and garnish with pomegranate ariels. If you want to salt the rim, run a lime wedge around the rim of the glass and dip in a small bowl of kosher salt. This cocktail can also be served up.

Patròn on the Rock

  • 2 or 3 oz. Patròn 100% Weber Blue Agave tequila
  • 1 spherical ice block (I use these for the mold)
  • Lime

Directions: Add tequila to a cocktail shaker with ice and shake. Pour over spherical ice block within glass and drop in a thin wheel of lime.
