Few collections in their entirety grasp my attention each season. And with only 3 days into the Fall 2017 men’s collections, I’m already certain to never forget Craig Green‘s runway show comprised of 32 fashion combatants suited up in full armor to take on the unknown and facing the fear that begets. Growing up, I was taught to never live in fear. You can be smart about what’s ahead and take the necessary precautions to prepare yourself, but living in fear in any regard equates to a life unfulfilled. With the sea serving as the root of Green’s inspiration and the vast unknown it embodies, looks brilliantly emulated those of fisherman, submariners, naval officers, warriors, and divers each representing a singular color from a rich palette of navy, green, taupe, lilac, gray, black, and patterns inspired by Irish pub carpets. The collection remains quintessentially Green and, being Green, progressively ahead of its time, but the meaning behind this cohesive season from start to finish imbued the fabrics in plain sight. With the amount of change as of late in the political and social climate, what lies ahead could baffle even the most respected analyst or foreseer. Let’s brace for what’s ahead and continue to carry out our day-to-day, for as the old saying goes, “a smooth sea never made a skillful sailor.”
