A few weekends ago, Kat and I headed up to Montauk for a one-night getaway from the city in the beautifully renovated Gurney’s Montauk Resort (… and Seawater Spa, which neither of us took advantage of, but will be on the immediate to-do list upon our return later this summer). Of all places in the Hamptons, Montauk is my favorite: it’s the furthest point East on Long Island, which gives it a sort of remote and perfectly desolate feel despite being a popular place for native NYers to escape to over summer weekends. Gurney’s is a boutique hotel, so it lacks the lavish lobbies and grand pools corporate resorts would boast — exactly what you don’t want for a weekend getaway. Instead, you arrive into a cozy lobby with a quaint, integrated little café; the most delicious restaurant-apart-of-a-hotel that I’d give 5 stars to in a heartbeat; gorgeous room patios with oceanfront views; and boardwalk steps away from a beautiful beach.
