A few weekends ago, I accompanied my friend Kat to Milan with her for fashion week. I’ve been to Italy before (road tripped it with my dad years ago from Rome to Florence and then to Venice — bello!), but Milan was still on the bucket list. Saying Yes! was a spur of the moment over coffee one Friday afternoon when she offered me to go with her: a bit of YOLO mixed in with a recurring notion that you should do it all while you’re young… some plain f*ck it, let’s go! didn’t hurt, either. One week later, we had our tickets booked and AirBnB reserved for a 3-night stay in the fashion capital of the world.
Here’s the nutshell version so we can get to this outfit. We were running around… literally. Upon arrival, we checked in to our charming flat and ventured off to visit the Duomo di Milano where we grabbed a bite on the plaza. That evening, we were invited to a dinner celebrating the latest collaboration between liqueur brand, Disaronno, and Versace. It was a beautifully seated, not to mention incredibly delicious, dinner at Carlo e Camilla in Segheria and we were the first to witness the bottled decked in printed Versace, which you can finally see here as it was just released on the 1st of this month. Day two, I accompanied Kat to the M.Missoni showroom for a meeting, and then to presentations at Santoni and Bally, ending the night at a fun wine bar we stumbled upon. Day three called for sleeping in just a bit, exploring more of the wondrous city, a meeting over campari cocktails at the Bulgari Hotel and a classic Italian dinner on the Piazza del Carmine (the restaurant’s called Tratoria del Carmine — delizioso!). Before we knew it, we were on a plane back to NYC to complete the whirlwind of an incredible trip we had.
This was one of my favorite outfits I wore on the trip. I picked up this Sandro shirt I’ve had my eyes on forever: plaid’s tricky for me, but this modern and etched print sealed the deal. I tucked it into these pleated AllSaints cuffed trousers (also great worn untucked), a pair of Margiela shoes I had to get on sale, and this leather jacket from Boda Skins (pick one up if you want endless compliments). To really give it the Italian touch, I snagged this J. Lindeberg fedora the day before I left and sported my Tom Ford sunnies to top off the look.
P.S. Here’s some of my favorite pics from the trip that I posted on Instagram. Clockwise from the top: that’s me enjoying the balcony of our flat; to the right, me again by the canals after wine; right below, the seated #DisaronnoWearsVERSACE dinner; and to the left of that is Kat and me on our way to the Bulgari Hotel.
